ODETTE DEQUIER (published on December 12, 2008)

ODETTE DEQUIER Tragically, secondary to a motor vehicle accident, on November 23, 2008, Odette succumbed to her injuries, on November 30. In accordance with the wishes of Odette's family, a private Funeral Mass was held on Thursday, December 4, 2008, with interment following at St.Claude Cemetery. Odette was predeceased by her brother Gilles (in 1983); as well as, her Uncle Albert; cousins, Gerald, Alain, Robert and Claude; grandparents, (Emma, Damase and Joseph). She leaves to mourn her mother Irene (Rene); father Jean; special friend Bruce; siblings, Anita (Rickie), Andre (Michelle) and Henri (Joanne); several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family members and innumerable friends. Odette was born August 2, 1962 in St. Claude, Manitoba. Although Odette experienced many hardships in previous years, 10 years ago she found happiness with her special friend Bruce. Odette was very spirited and passionate about many topics. An avid reader and quick study, she was truly versed and enjoyed debating many subjects with enthusiasm. As such, her advice was often sought by many around her as her keen sense was often guiding others in decisions. She accomplished much independently and worked very hard to attain it, living very frugally in order to benefit those around her. She was known for her exuberance of life, enjoying all social activities, rarely missing functions with family and/or friends. Odette excelled academically and had many educational accomplishments, including formal training in accounting; however chose to pursue a career as a professional transport operator alongside Bruce. Odette was known as the person you could always count on. Her primary focus was spending time with her mother and caring for her nieces and nephews. It was common for her to book all her spare time between every trip to help those around her. She continually gave of herself with acts of kindness and generosity. Just over a year ago, Odette purchased her first new home. She openly shared her house and created a welcoming environment for those around her needing a place to stay. Whether she was planning a special outing or entertaining friends, she thoroughly enjoyed sharing her time and resources. Odette never stood still for long and was always rushing through our lives as she would had to leave to help someone out as she seemed to live her life knowing she had much to accomplish in the short time she would spend with us. Unfortunately, her time with us was cut much too short and the void she leaves is inexplicable. Her acts of thoughtfulness and generosity were the essence of how wonderful she was. She truly lived to please others and thoroughly cherished her time with family and friends. Her legacy of selflessness will indeed live on through those who were fortunate to be touched by her greatness. The family would like to thank the Health Sciences Centre Surgical Intensive Care Unit for having worked so diligently and caringly for Odette. In keeping with Odette's charitable life, in lieu of flowers, we encourage that donations be made to SICU towards the purchase of a portable CT Scan which will ensure future critically head injured patients will not have to be moved during the most detrimental time. We also wish to sincerely thank all family and friends who vigilantly stayed at Odette's bedside the week following her accident. In addition, we would like to thank Father Celestin Mubaya for the lovely ceremony and support he provided. Furthermore, we genuinely thank you for all expressions of sympathy and donations extended to the family as well as for respecting our wish for a private ceremony we know you all continue to hold us in your thoughts and prayers.
